Is sports betting legal in Delaware?
Delaware runs sports betting through the Delaware Lottery, in person at its casinos and through the Lottery's online sportsbook. It started in 2018 in person, with online betting since December 2023. You have to be at least 21 to bet on sports in Delaware. Betting is overseen by the Delaware Lottery.
How to self-exclude from sports betting in Delaware
Signing up for self-exclusion feels huge. It's really a form and an ID check, and then the licensed books in your state can't take your money anymore.
In Delaware, the main option is the Delaware Lottery Self-Exclusion Program.
- It covers Delaware's casinos and their online gaming sites, plus the Lottery's sports app.
- You choose 1 year, 5 years or lifetime.
- You enroll in person at the Delaware Lottery office in Dover. Appointments are recommended. Forms can't be mailed to you.
- You can't be removed early. A lifetime exclusion can't be removed.
Also self-exclude inside each sportsbook app you've used, usually under account settings or responsible gaming. It takes effect right away and covers you while the state program processes.
For a full walkthrough, including the national program and each major app, see how to self-exclude from sports betting.
Watching sports in Delaware without betting
Sportsbooks know which teams people in Delaware care about, so the promos follow the Delaware Blue Hens. Mute the commercials, delete any betting app that's still hiding on your phone, and give yourself something to do at halftime.
More on this in watching sports after you quit.
Put more walls between you and a bet
Every step you put between you and a bet helps on a bad night.
- Put a blocker on your phone and computer, and have someone else hold the passcode. See how to block sports betting apps.
- Take saved payment methods off every betting site and lower your daily ATM and transfer limits.
- Behind on bills? NFCC.org can match you with a nonprofit credit counselor.
