How to Close Your Sportsbook Accounts

Maybe the last leg of a parlay just missed. Maybe it's a quiet Tuesday and you're finally thinking straight. Either way, you typed this into a search bar, and that's a big decision. Good. Below is exactly how to lock yourself out of the big three sportsbooks, and how to make it stick.

On a different app? We have step-by-step guides for Caesars, Fanatics, bet365, theScore Bet (ESPN BET), PrizePicks, Underdog, Kalshi and more.

Timeout, self-exclusion or closing your account: which one?

  • Timeout or cool-off: a short break, often days to a year. Some can be ended early.
  • Self-exclusion: a longer ban you can't undo early, usually starting at 6 or 12 months, and up to years or life depending on the sportsbook and state.
  • Closing your account: shuts the account down, but by itself it may not stop you from opening a new one.

If you're serious about quitting, self-exclusion is the stronger move. Do it with every sportsbook you've used.

Before you start

  • Withdraw any balance first.
  • You'll usually need to be logged in.
  • Options and lengths vary by state, so your menus may look a little different.

DraftKings

Log in, open your profile or account, and find Responsible Gaming. Scroll to the section for taking a break, choose Self-Exclusion, pick the longest period offered, and confirm. If you'd rather close the account, withdraw first, then use the account closure option in your settings, or ask support to close it for you.

FanDuel

Sign in, open the Responsible Gaming or User Tools section, select Self-Exclusion, choose your period, enter your information and submit. According to FanDuel, self-excluding from one FanDuel product applies to your other eligible FanDuel products, and your email comes off their marketing lists within 72 hours. To close your account permanently, contact FanDuel customer support.

BetMGM

Log in and find the responsible gaming section, often labeled Time-out and Self-exclusion. Choose Self Exclusion and pick a length. In some states, BetMGM has you email its Responsible Gaming team to self-exclude. Can't find the option? Contact support and ask to self-exclude in writing.

Go further with your state's self-exclusion program

Self-excluding inside each app covers that one sportsbook. Your state's program covers every licensed sportsbook in the state at once. Do both. See how to self-exclude from sports betting.

Close the other doors

Write down every betting, fantasy, pick'em or casino app you've ever used, and exclude from each one. Then add a blocker so you can't sign up somewhere new on a bad night. See how to block sports betting apps.

FAQ

Can I undo self-exclusion?

Usually not until the period ends. That's on purpose. It's there to protect you on your worst nights.

Will closing my account stop the emails?

It should. To be sure, also unsubscribe from every email and reply STOP to their texts.

What happens to my open bets?

Pending bets are typically settled under your state's rules. If you can, withdraw your balance before you exclude.
