Gambling Addiction Hotline Numbers

Leer en español

Every free number worth knowing, and what really happens when you reach out.

Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET

The national problem gambling helpline is 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738). It's free, confidential and open 24/7 by call or text, with chat at ncpgambling.org/chat. If you're thinking about ending your life, call or text 988. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911.

You've typed the number into your phone and deleted it. Maybe more than once. Calling feels like saying out loud the thing you've been hiding from everyone, maybe even from yourself. You don't need to have it figured out first. You just need to call.

The national gambling helpline

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) runs the national helpline. On January 29, 2026, it switched to a new number, 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738). NCPG says the old number, 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), still works too.

  • Open 24/7, every day of the year, by call, text or chat.
  • Free. Nobody asks for insurance or a card number. Your carrier's normal text rates may apply.
  • Confidential. NCPG says your identity isn't shared without your consent.
  • Nationwide. It covers all 50 states and US territories, with interpreters in more than 240 languages.
  • Answered by people trained in gambling problems.

What happens when you call the hotline

You tell someone what's going on, and they point you toward help that fits. Depending on where you live, that might be a counselor who specializes in gambling, a support group, outpatient or residential treatment, help with self-exclusion, financial counseling or support for your family.

One thing worth knowing: calls get routed by your phone's area code, and the person who picks up can't see where you are. If your number is from another state, tell them where you live now so they can find help near you.

This helpline isn't a crisis line. If you're in danger or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 or call 911.

What about 1-800-GAMBLER?

You've probably seen 1-800-GAMBLER at the bottom of every sportsbook ad. That number is now run by the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, and several states still use it as their state line, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. It's a real helpline. If you can't decide which one to call, 1-800-MY-RESET covers every state.

You can call 1-800-MY-RESET about someone else's gambling too. Gam-Anon is the support group for family and friends. It has a hotline at 844-475-4213 and meetings in person and online at gam-anon.org. A good place to start is how to help someone with a gambling problem.
